This scabbard was designed & built based on early 14th Century scabbard builds, with many aspects of the design being recreated from 14th century art & effigies. While not a recreation of any particular art or effigy, I designed this build around the idea of being commissioned by a royal lord of the early 14th century, loyal to the crown of Edward the III, if even perhaps the King himself.

For a right-handed swordsman, this rig will fit over an outfit that spans 37" to 47". Built for an Albion Prince sword, this scabbard is highly decorated in royal fashion. If you don't already have a Prince sword, but are interested in acquiring one, I can order one for you.

Interested person(s) please email or text me.

"Matthew Paris" scabbard

Matthew of Paris 1250 Miniature Matthew of Paris Medieval Sword Scabbard Matthew of Paris Medieval Sword Scabbard Matthew of Paris Medieval Sword Scabbard Matthew of Paris Medieval Sword Scabbard

This scabbard build is my own recreation of the scabbard seen in the famous miniature art by Matthew Paris (or Matthew of Paris), in the approximate year of 1250 AD. In observation of his works, a common trait I noted is he used minimal colors, and often colored multiple objects the same color, even though they likely would have been different. Matthew also liked to use the color green, more so than other colors. Matthew's technique is unique, skillful, and quite recognizable. However, for this build I opted for a more simple color combination of browns. Another note is; the belt orientation in Matthews miniature (coming off the backside) is reversed from my own. Originally I attempted a mock-up of said orientation but the scabbard went more vertical and wanted to tilt the other way more-so than it should. I reversed the arrangement and the angle of hang was then exactly where it should be. Waist size starts at 34" and goes up from there for a right-handed swordsman.

Sword-less scabbard orders; DBK Custom Scabbards are built using the sword models we have on hand to fit that very sword. Our process requires a sword in order to shape the wood core to the blade, and other physical variances such as the shape of the guard that require a physical example on hand in order to build the scabbard to a proper fit. We do not guarantee the fit on these scabbards as there is no way to be sure the manufacturer didn't change some physical aspect causing a drastic enough variance to eliminate any chance of the scabbard fitting both swords. Furthermore any requests made by the customer to attempt a 'proper' or 'normal' fit is done at the customer's own risk of their own sword not fitting properly or at all. In any event DBK Custom Swords will not refund your money in the event your sword does not fit properly, or at all.
